Nokia 515 : Aluminium Treat

Nokia 515

Nokia has finally realized the importance of a well-spread portfolio and the company has announced Nokia 515, a classy budget feature phone. Nokia 515 is a feature phone that can provide a tough challenge to many high-end smartphones when it comes to design and looks. The shift from traditional plastic backs to an all aluminium feature phone is definitely impressive.

Talking about the phone, Peter Griffith, Head of Mobile Phones Industrial Design at Nokia said, "When designing the Nokia 515 we set out to create a beautifully designed phone that people will be proud to own. We believe we've achieved that - the Nokia 515 is designed for people who prefer classic design, crafted to perfection and with the functionality they need for everyday use. We have created something that performs stunningly, without compromise." According to Nokia, ‘The Nokia 515 reflects Nokia's approach to design, focused on simplicity, purity and craft.’

That all sure does sound impressive but it is not exactly looks that sell a phone. Does Nokia 515 support the features to make it an overall “beautiful” device? If specifications are to be believed, it sure does! Nokia 515 is not a phone that focuses just on the design but Nokia has ensures some high-end specifications too accompany the gorgeous looks. The phone is perhaps the first Nokia feature phone to feature a Gorilla Glass display.

Nokia 515 comes with a 2.4" QVGA display. The screen is made out of Gorilla Glass 2 for improved durability. Nokia 515 comes with a regular alpha-numeric keyboard. The keypad is made of resin and blended in with the device

The best part about Nokia 515 is the camera. While most feature phones sport a camera these days, Nokia 515 has added an improved snapper to this sleek beauty. Nokia 515 comes with a 5 MP camera and LED flash. The camera is not another basic cam but supports various modes like panorama, sequential shot and self portrait for selfie lovers. There’s no front cam but the rear end snapper comes with voice-support which assists in getting that perfect self-shot!

Nokia has also included a new widget called ‘Slam’ which let’s users share media files and images to another Bluetooth enabled phone in the vicinity without needing to actually pair the phones.

Nokia 515 comes with HD voice quality and supports 3.5G. Nokia has also made transferring contacts easier with their Transfer app which syncs contacts with any device, irrespective of the OS. Nokia 515 comes with 1200 mAh battery. The feature phone comes in two variants, single SIM and dual-SIM though we are pretty confident that it will be the dual-SIM variant that will come to India.

Priced at 149 USD, the phone is a budget feature-phone and is expected to launch in September. The phone is beautiful inside out and we definitely love the sleek looks!

Moto X review

Introduction

As the first smartphone developed entirely after Google's purchase of Motorola, the Moto X arrives under the spotlight carrying great expectations. The smartphone is Motorola's first multi-carrier, high-profile launch in the United States since the days when the RAZR was still a flip phone. More recently, the company's devices mostly been Verizon exclusives in North America, but we are glad that's not the case with its most recent flagship.

Here go the key features of the Motorola Moto X and its turn offs.

Key features

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE; quad-band UMTS/HSPA support
  • 100Mbps LTE with a second dedicated antenna

 Main disadvantages
  • More expensive than more powerful competitors
  • Non-expandable memory
  • Non user-accessible battery
  • Moto Maker is exclusive to AT&T at launch
  • No FM Radio
Only a quick look at the spec sheet of the Motorola Moto X is enough to tell us that the handset is not the typical Android flagship. Based on hardware specs alone, the smartphone fits the shoes of today's lower mid-range Android offerings better.
Curiously, we can't help but see great similarity between Motorola's unusual approach towards the design of the Moto X and the philosophy used so successfully by Apple with the iPhone. The Moto X puts powerful hardware second, and focuses on ergonomic and user experience (the voice control operation) instead. It's certainly a gamble, but it's one that might pay off nicely.
The one Moto X feature which its manufacturer is boasting about the most is Moto Maker. It offers you the option to design your own Moto X by choosing from hundreds of combinations and you also get to tune your boot animation and wallpaper before you have even received the smartphone. It is a clear sign that innovation hasn't dried up at Motorola, but we are yet to see how well it will be received by the market.

Nokia brings Lumia 925 and Lumia 625 smartphones to India

Nokia has officially launched its Lumia 925 and Lumia 625 smartphones in India. The Nokia Lumia 925, the premium Windows Phone package that also features an 8.7MP camera with OIS at the back comes to you at a price tag of INR33,499 while the 620 successor, the Lumia 625 is up for grabs at INR19,999.

To refresh your memory, the Nokia Lumia 925 comes with a 4.5" AMOLED display with a resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels. The device is powered by a Qualcomm chipset that packs a dual-core Krait processor at 1.5 GHz and features 1 GB of RAM for multi-tasking.
However, the 8.7 megapixel sensor with Optical Image Stabilization and fF/2.0 aperture, which is already proven to capturing impressive images, takes most of the spotlight. The LED flash at the back allows the shooter to perform well during low light conditions and doubles as a video light.
Nokia Lumia 925 comes equipped with a Smart Camera app, which allows you to capture great quality images in several shooting modes including burst mode, Best shot, Action Shot and Motion focus. Furthermore, the app has the Scalado-made feature that lets you remove moving objects and pick the best face for each person.
Running the Amber update out of box, the Lumia 925 can enjoy the latest goodies from Microsoft's platform as well as a number of Nokia exclusive apps.
You can check our detailed review of the Nokia Lumia 925 that includes photo samples, video samples and pretty much everything else that matters about the smartphone.

On the other hand, the Lumia 625 sports a 4.7" IPS LCD display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and a pixel density of 201ppi. The device packs quite a punch for its price bracket with a dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB of built-in memory, which can be expanded via microSD card slot.
The mid-range Lumia 625 also has 5 megapixel shooter at that back that is capable of capturing 1080p videos and a front-facing camera of VGA resolution. The device has a wide range of connectivity options that include Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 + LE and GPS+ GLONASS.
Both, the Nokia Lumia 925 and Lumia 625 will be available from online retailers and in brick and mortar stores, but there is no timeline at the moment. However, you can sign up at the official Nokia India website and be the first to know the availability details of the smartphones.

LG G2 Smartphone Review

LG-G2-smartphone-review

After so much anticipation the LG G2 has been launched on the 7th August in New York. Now that the phone has been revealed, the official site is showing much more than when we had written last time.
The slogan “Learning From You” still dominates the official site – a clear indication that this was not just some pre-launch slogan but rather the official motto of the LG G2.

The general impression is that the LG G2 has been built on a huge wishlist that users wanted out of a mobile phone. Following a similar trend that has been adopted by recent phone manufacturers, the LG G2 boasts of a large touch screen, sleek design and powerful processing power.

But in a market that is dominated by giants such as the Apple iPhone, the LG G2 has embarked in a massive pre-launch campaign that promised to deliver a phone that was built around the needs of phone users. And true to its word, the LG has armed the LG G2 with some pretty cool innovative technology.
We have discovered that the first and probably the most discussed feature that was revealed pre-launch of the LG G2 – the QuickWindow has been kept. However, much to the surprise of those who were saying that this feature was a rip-off of the Samsung Galaxy 4 S-View, the LG G2 QuickWindow enables the user to do much more than simply see the time. In fact, as can be seen in the video below, the user can interact with the LG G2 via the QuickWindow such as answering a phonecall and playing music. This exceeds what has been accomplished by its competition.

Key Features of the LG G2

And what about the innovative cool features that adorn the LG G2. One does not have to look far for that as they are prominently showcased on the Official LG G2 website. These are:
KnockON – Simply knocking gently on the LG G2 will awake the phone’s display. An ideal feature to have when you want to wake up your phone but cannot do so in a conventional manner because your hands are full
Guest Mode – The guest mode is ideal if you want to share your phone but would not wish to share the apps or settings that are on it. The guest mode feature on the LG G2 allows just that. You can personalise the user experience of your phone for someone else to use – including what apps are available.
OIS Camera – The high resolution 13 MP OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) camera contains technology that is so intelligent that you do not need a steady hand when filming your videos. This is because the camera will automatically stabilise your focus and hence your videos will not be blurry. This technology is also very convenient when filming or taking photographs at night.
Audio Zoom – This innovative feature of the LG G2 allows you to zoom into the audio being emitted by a source of your choice. As the demo video shows, you can pinch to zoom into a specific person in a crowd when filming and thanks to the three stereo microphones in the LG G2, the sound being made by that person will be recorded more clearly while other sounds in the background will be de-emphasized.
Then there are of course other great features of the LG G2 such as:
  • 5.2” Full HD IPS display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Processor with 2.26GHZ Quad Core CPUs
  • 2 GB LPDDR3 800 MHZ RAM
  • 13 MP OIS Camera (back), 2.1MP Camera (front)
  • 16 GB / 32 GB Storage
  • Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 OS
  • Size – 138.5 x 70.9 x 8.9mm
  • Dual recording / dual camera
  • Long lasting battery – 3000mAH
  • 24 bit /192 kHZ audio playback

So, the LG G2 lived up to the expectations it has built in the pre-launch campaign.
