Samsung Galaxy Grand I9082Main disadvantages

  • The five-inch diagonal stretches the WVGA resolution really thin
  • Middling screen contrast and overall quality
  • Poor low-light video recording
  • No dedicated camera key

Going by the sheer screen size of the Galaxy Grand, Samsung is obviously looking to cater to a crowd that wants the most recent trend in smartphones. The catch is that it's a certain set of users that would love the extra real estate but not pay a premium price. Now, throw a dual-SIM into the mix and you end up with a target audience that will be hard-pressed to find something better than the Grand.
But... Not paying a flagship price entails compromise. In the Galaxy Grand, it's the size of a ... well... five-inch screen. The image quality isn't bad, but is far from top notch either. The contrast is decent if unspectacular, but more importantly, the WVGA resolution gets stretched pretty thin on this kind of screen diagonal.
The Galaxy Grand also won't give you some of the extra goodies that are a part of a flagship's standard equipment, like NFC.
Samsung's first-gen phablet, the Galaxy Note, has everything the Grand has (besides the dual-SIM support obviously), and then some. It will gladly offer a larger, crisper Super AMOLED display of 800 x 1280 pixels resolution, which is covered with Gorilla Glass to boot. Keep in mind that the Note, even after all the price cuts, is still notably more expensive than the Galaxy Grand and has no dual-SIM version in case that's what you are after.

If a massive screen and dual-SIM support aren't absolute must-haves, but keeping within the budget is the Samsung Galaxy S II Plus is the straightforward alternative. It has almost identical specs as the Grand, and while the screen is smaller at 4.3 inches, it is of the Super AMOLED Plus variety.

Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. Sony Xperia Z : Clash of the Titans

Sony Xperia Z over Samsung Galaxy S4

Sony Xperia Z
  • IP57 dust and water protection
  • Glass-covered body looks way superior
  • FM radio
  • HDR video
  • Already available, slightly cheaper
  • TV-out via MHL link works with most of the available MHL HDMI cables

Samsung Galaxy S4 over Sony Xperia Z

    Samsung I9500 Galaxy S4
  • Screen has superior color reproduction, contrast and viewing angles, works with gloves and air gestures
  • Newer chipset with higher clock speed
  • Dual-video recording, can shoot 9.6MP stills while recording video, 60MP panoramas
  • Infra-red blaster
  • Android 4.2.2 out of box
  • Multi-window multitasking
  • Additional sensors (barometer, thermometer, hygroscope)
  • Air gestures; Smart stay, Smart pause, Smart scroll
The Xperia Z is clearly a smartphone made to not just compete, but to win. The Galaxy S4 builds on a generations known for amazing screen quality, standard-setting performance, the latest version of the OS available and features unseen before.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 easily comes across as the superior smartphone, but does it mean that the Xperia Z should start packing? Is there really nothing that the best of Sony in a smartphone can offer against the best Samsung smartphone? Of course there is.
The Sony Xperia Z is still an impressively capable package and one of the coolest pieces of smartphone design. The IP57 certification will appeal to the outdoorsy type who need a smartphone with better than average protection against the elements. And we wouldn't say that water resistance is its best bet at staying relevant. The Xperia Z is better than that.

With all the tests we did and numbers thrown around it's easy to forget that the Sony Xperia Z offers impressive smartphone experience and comes in a beautiful glass-clad body. And mind you, it wasn't Samsung's goal to make the Galaxy S4 the best kept secret by giving it a finish that just doesn't look premium. Anyway, if you don't need all the extra goodies of the Galaxy S4, why not give your eyes a treat. Of course, in that case you should also give the HTC One a serious consideration, but that's the topic for a yet another shootout. And you can bet it's coming up.
So, if you chose the Sony Xperia Z for the looks and the water resistance, you don't need us telling you it's money well spent. By the way, we are certain that many bought the Xperia Z because there was nothing better on the market at the time. This will be the reasoning of future Galaxy S4 owners too. To be fair though, that's easier said about the Xperia Z then, than it is for the Galaxy S4 now. Oh well, it's a compliment that goes both ways. And rightfully so.

Apple iPhone 5S coming soon

The new Apple smart phone called the Apple iPhone 5S is rumored to be launched by the mid of 2013. It will be the successor to the Apple iPhone 5, which was basically a 6th generation iPhone and the first handset after the demise of Steve Jobs. The phone had a splendid mixture of panache and technology, a true owner’s pride. The features it possessed were truly spectacular and an Apple’s spokes person was quoted as saying that the new iPhone 5S model in the iPhone line up will make people forget about the grand iPhone 5. This is a big remark to make, but he added that a 128GB variant is speculated to be launched. You will receive incredible iPhone 5S Deals.

Apple is planning to take the whole world into a new millennium by employing a lot of fearsome technology, and you can be a part of it by purchasing an iPhone 5S Contract. The screen supposedly is going to be Super HD and will contain Retina + display, which will give the screen a higher quality, if the quality goes any higher than iPhone 5’s   I can only see the user gliding through this phone. The Apple smart phone has been prophesied as the king of phones, which will be likely to change the modern way of living. The only advice I can give about this soon to be launched phone is that, you better be ready to kill to get your handset, as it won’t be spending much time on the shelf.
